SkyNRG

Customer demand

After years of preparation, SkyNRG reached a historic milestone: the start of construction on its own plant in Delfzijl, where Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) will be produced.

A moment that is important both for SkyNRG itself and for the future of sustainable aviation.

To mark this milestone, SkyNRG wanted to bring together partners, stakeholders, and employees at the very place where this ambition is becoming a reality. The event was meant to tell the story of fifteen years of pioneering and collaborating on an uncertain ambition. We really wanted to showcase the impact this plant will have on the aviation sector and the energy transition.

The Event: What It's All About

At the future construction site, we organized an event in which we translated the factory’s technical expertise into a unique experience—an experience designed to bring people together and spark conversation about this important topic.

The day began with a special radio broadcast for all guests during their trip to Delfzijl, which meant the experience had already begun before they arrived on site. After being welcomed at the temporary event grounds, we kicked things off with a custom-designed opening show. Through spoken word, music, dance, video, and lighting, we told the story of SkyNRG’s journey toward the completion of this plant. It was a visual spectacle that set the tone for the rest of the day and, above all, allowed the guests to truly feel the significance of this milestone.

This was followed by a substantive program featuring presentations by, among others, the CEOs of SkyNRG and KLM, policymakers, and project partners. Visitors gained insight into the development and production process of SAF and the role the plant will play in making aviation more sustainable. Colleagues from SkyNRG served as experts during the event, giving the entire organization a place on stage. The official opening ceremony marked the symbolic start of a new phase for the project.

After the client appreciation program, the day concluded with a spectacular party for all SkyNRG employees, so they, too, could come together to celebrate this special milestone.

The challenge

The biggest challenge was the location itself. The event took place at a construction site that didn’t have any facilities at the time. No power supply, no water connection, and no existing infrastructure. A complete production, in other words—exactly the kind of project that gets our hearts racing!

So everything had to be set up on a temporary basis—from technology and hospitality to logistics and behind-the-scenes facilities. It was a complex production that required meticulous preparation and tight coordination among all parties involved. In addition, the project had a long and uncertain lead-up. Due to delays in the factory’s construction schedule, the event was postponed several times. When the final go-ahead was finally given, we had to scale up operations in a short period of time. Thanks to the flexibility of all the partners involved, we were able to adapt quickly and successfully pull off the event.

Added value

From the very first discussions, the focus was on translating SkyNRG’s vision into an event that would resonate both intellectually and emotionally.

We developed a concept centered on the organization’s story and ensured that all aspects of the event aligned with it—from the opening show and the program to the venue design and the guest experience.

Sustainability was a natural starting point in this process. When making decisions regarding catering, transportation, and production, we consistently sought solutions that aligned with SkyNRG’s mission. At the same time, we ensured that the temporary location reflected the same quality, professionalism, and forward-thinking approach as the organization itself.

The collaboration

For nearly a year, we worked closely with the SkyNRG team to prepare for this special moment. This gave us the freedom to experiment, refine our ideas to make them even better, and focus on the finest details.

The collaboration was characterized by true co-creation. As an extension of the internal team, we shared a sense of responsibility to strike the right chord with this event.

As a result, the collaboration didn’t feel like one between a client and an agency, but rather like a single project team working together toward the same goal. It was precisely that commitment and mutual trust that formed an important foundation for the event’s success.

The result

What had consisted mainly of plans, permits, designs, and financing for years became tangible and visible during this day.

Bringing together the various target groups among the invited guests at the site where the factory is actually being built fostered a strong sense of pride and engagement. The event demonstrated that sustainable aviation is no longer just an ambition, but is actually taking shape.

It was a memorable day that truly captured the significance of this milestone and signalled to everyone in attendance that the next phase for SkyNRG had officially begun.
